The Benefits of Guided Meditation for Your Mental Wellbeing

The Benefits of Guided Meditation for Your Mental Wellbeing

After a suggestion from one of our lovely members, we are now incorporating Guided Meditations as part of our online class timetable in January 2021. We focus much of our efforts on keeping you physically fit, however, we know how important it is to also put time into taking care of your mind.

What is Guided Meditation?

Meditation is a process by which you train your mind over time through focused breath-work and mental visualisations whilst following direction from a trainer's voice. Because we as humans tend to get distracted easily, focusing on a single voice during meditation can make it easier to filter out other thoughts and distractions - leaving you feeling more in tune with your mind and your present state.

Benefits of Incorporating Guided Meditation Into Your Routine

1. Reduces stress
Stress causes an inflammatory response in your system which can interrupt your sleep and contribute to feelings of depression and anxiety. Regular meditation can help minimise this inflammatory response and can aid in reducing feelings of tunnel-vision or uncontrollable running thoughts.

2. Combats anxiety

Much like the practice of yoga, meditation can be used to become more at one with your mind and body. As a result, meditation can help train your mind to cope with symptoms of anxiety more effectively over time.

3. Improves emotional health

Meditation can help you feel more in control of your emotions, feelings and thoughts. Improved emotional health also means you'll be in a better position to bounce back from life's many challenges and setbacks.

4. Promotes self-awareness

With the busyness of day-to-day life, it can be easy to get caught up in the world around you and forget to objectively focus on yourself. Dedicating time for mindfulness can help improve your ability to be more aware of your actions and behaviour - leading to a better alignment of your internal values and standards over time.

5. Develops attention span

Ever-changing technology and a fast-paced lifestyle make it difficult to keep up a long attention span. We are becoming increasingly distracted and this can lead to reduced productivity, not only at work but in all aspects of life. Setting aside time for your mind to focus on one task or activity is a great way to help improve your attention span, accuracy and overall focus.

6. Improves sleep

Even if you think you're getting enough sleep, the quality of this sleep might not be the best it can be. By reducing stress and anxiety through meditative sessions, you can help clear your mind of unnecessary runaway thoughts and in turn, improve the quality of your sleep.

7. It's accessible!

The best part about guided meditation is you can do it from anywhere! You don't need any special equipment, just a safe, comfortable, and quiet space to sit or lie-down.
