National Fitness Day is a great reminder that movement does not have to be complicated. You do not need to spend hours in the gym or follow a demanding workout plan to get active.

This year, National Fitness Day takes place on Wednesday 16 September 2026. At Fitness4Less, we are celebrating movement from 16 to 30 September with ways to get active, enjoy your workouts and make fitness part of your routine.

Whether you are already training regularly or looking for a reason to start again, there are plenty of simple ways to move your body.

Start With a Simple Workout

You do not need a complicated routine to get moving.

A short gym session can still be a good way to exercise. You could spend 20 to 30 minutes using cardio equipment, lifting weights or working through a few basic exercises.

For instance, try a simple full-body session with squats, lunges, chest presses and rows. You can then finish with a few minutes of light cardio.

The most important thing is to choose exercises that feel suitable for your fitness level. As you become more comfortable, you can gradually increase the time or intensity.

Take a Walk and Get Moving

Exercise does not always have to happen on the gym floor.

A walk can be an easy way to add more movement to your day. You could walk to work, take the stairs or head outside during your lunch break.

Even a short walk gives you a chance to step away from your desk and get your body moving.

What's more, you can make walking a social activity. Invite a friend or family member to join you and catch up while you walk.

Train With a Friend

Having someone to train with can make exercise feel more enjoyable.

A friend can give you a little extra motivation when you do not feel like working out. You can also encourage each other and celebrate your progress together.

During National Fitness Day, why not invite someone to join you?

Fitness4Less members can share a FREE Guest Pass with a loved one through the mobile App between 16 and 30 September.*

It is a simple way to introduce someone to your gym and enjoy a workout together.

Try Something Different

If your usual routine has started to feel repetitive, National Fitness Day is a good excuse to try something new.

You could try a different piece of equipment or join a group fitness class. A new workout can add variety to your week and help you discover an activity you enjoy.

For example, you could try a HIIT class, strength session or another class available at your local Fitness4Less club.

Trying something different can also help you stay interested in your fitness routine over time.

Make Movement Part of Your Routine

You do not need to completely change your lifestyle to become more active.

Instead, look for small opportunities to move throughout the day. Take a short walk after work, stretch while watching television or add a few extra exercises to your gym session.

Over time, these small choices can become habits.

If you want to make exercise easier to stick with, take a look at The Power of Habit Stacking: How to Make Your Fitness Stick.

The idea is simple: connect a new fitness habit with something you already do regularly.

Remember to Recover

Moving more is important, but recovery matters too.

Your body needs time to recover after challenging workouts. Rest days, good nutrition and enough sleep can all support your training.

If you have pushed yourself during a tough session, give your body time to recover before training the same muscles again.

You can also include lighter activities on your rest days. Walking, gentle stretching and mobility work can help you stay active without putting too much stress on your body.

Make Fitness About You

There is no single way to celebrate National Fitness Day.

You might complete a full workout, take a long walk or simply spend a little more time moving today. What matters is finding something that works for you.

Your fitness journey is personal. Therefore, try not to compare your progress with anyone else's.

Some days will be more active than others. That is completely normal.

Instead, focus on building a routine that you can enjoy and maintain.
