As the days get longer and the weather shifts, it is the perfect time to clear away the cobwebs and breathe new life into your training. A spring clean is not just for your home; it is about auditing your current fitness plan to ensure you are still moving toward your goals with intensity. If your motivation has felt static lately, refreshing your approach can provide the spark needed to elevate your performance.
REFRESH YOUR WORKOUT ENVIRONMENT Sometimes a change of scenery is the simplest way to find a new gear. If you usually stick to the treadmill, move your session to the functional zone or try a new lifting platform.
- The Benefit: New surroundings challenge your focus and stop you from just going through the motions.
- The Action: Swap one solo session this week for a high energy HIIT class to feed off the collective atmosphere of the club.
ENERGISING WORKOUT EXAMPLES To help you break out of a plateau, try incorporating these "Spring Refresh" finishers at the end of your next session. These are designed to spike your heart rate and leave you feeling accomplished.
1.
THE 5-MINUTE POWER BLOCK Set a timer for 5 minutes and complete as many rounds as possible of:
- 10 Kettlebell Swings
- 10 Goblet Squats
- 10 Burpees
2.
THE SPRINT FLUSH Finish your gym session with a technical metabolic flush:
- 30 seconds of maximal effort on the SkiErg or Rower
- 30 seconds of active recovery (slow walk)
- Repeat for 8 to 10 rounds
AUDIT YOUR GOALS Motivation often fades when our targets become blurry. Take ten minutes this week to review your progress since the start of the year. Are you still training for the same reasons?
- Set a Spring Target: Whether it is mastering a new technical lift or increasing your endurance for the upcoming Inter-Club Challenge, having a specific milestone will keep your routine sharp.
GEAR UP FOR THE INTER-CLUB CHALLENGE The best way to refresh your motivation is to train with a purpose. Our Inter-Club Heat Week is approaching from 27 April to 30 April. This is your chance to test your fitness against the standards of other clubs and earn your place on the team for Saturday 27 June.
