5 Inventive Ways To Get Moving At Home

5 Inventive Ways To Get Moving At Home

Even though we offer a range of equipment-free live classes for you to enjoy, we understand that some of you might not have enough space to workout at home, or you may just want to do something different instead.

So we've come up with a few inventive ways to move your body at home. Hopefully, these tricks will help you to feel more energetic and may spark some creativity to keep up a regular exercise routine during lockdown and beyond.

1. Get Cleaning Or Rearrange Your Furniture
We've all been there, vacuuming and mopping the floor to only be drenched in sweat 5 minutes later. Cleaning is a great way to exercise without realising it. It's also a win-win scenario as you'll be improving your fitness whilst keeping your house clean and enjoyable to live in.

Some ways you can raise your heart rate by cleaning include: sweeping or mopping your floors, cleaning your windows inside and out, and rearranging your furniture. Moving around your living room space is an easy way to work up a sweat. Just remember to lift with your legs and protect your back.

2. Impromptu Dance Parties
Turn up the tunes and have yourself a dance party! Pick a couple of your favourite songs to boogie to and let loose. Jumping around and having fun to music is both great exercise and an amazing stress reliever.

You don't have to be a good dancer, the more absurd the better - and who cares, no one is watching!

3. Take All Your Calls Standing Up
If you're working from home it's easy to forget to stand up and walk around every so often. An easy way to get your steps in is to take all your calls standing up. Even better would be to walk around the house while on the phone.

It may not seem like much, but every bit of movement counts and it will also help alleviate any back pain from sitting down all day.

4. Climb Up & Down Your Stairs
If you have stairs at home or in your apartment building then this one's a no-brainer! Set yourself a 'flight' goal every day and record how many times you can go up and down the stairs at home.

Instead of an online workout, you can also work up a sweat by running up and down your stairs. See how many you can do in a given time frame and work on improving this number every time. Top tip: taking two steps at a time instead of one also helps engage your leg muscles for a more intense workout.

5. Active Video Games
Play video games that force you to be active. Maybe you can resurrect your old Wii Fit, or even invest in Just Dance. There are plenty of video games on the market that promote physical activity and they're great for the whole family to enjoy.

Don't be fooled, they may look easy but you'll definitely break a sweat in no time!
